Essay #5
By: Harry Staley
(TS)Crying signifies an emotion brought about by either great happiness or sadness. (SD) Mrs. Iacoi, my art teacher, cries when she is touched by emotional speeches by ninth graders or meaningful assembly’s. (CM) I think she cries because she happy to see the change in her students since they were small. (CM)Mrs. Iacoi might be happy now but in a short while she might be weeping because she misses them (SD) On the other hand crying implies sorrow. For example, in To Kill A Mockingbird Jem cries when he finds that the hole in the tree has been filled in with cement. (CM)When he notices the cement he automatically becomes sad, but his friend gives him encouragement and says, “come on Jem don’t cry please don’t cry.” (CM) The second Jem got home he attempted to hold himself back, but he just couldn’t do it. (SD) Crying is a very strong emotion that can be used in a few different ways, unfortunately Jem didn’t cry in the good way.
